Instant Improv Classes

"The Noblest Art is That of Making Others Happy"

All of our improv comedy classes consist of weekly 2h30m classes for 8 weeks, followed by a class show for invited family and friends. Our courses usually take place at 800A Bar & Cabaret in Wedding.

You'll also have a ton of fun and meet some amazing new friends!

We take a holistic approach to improv, where short- and long-form improv are treated as two sides of the same coin. We ground students in short-form game work as preparation for longer scene work, and in turn use scene work to improve our game work. In this way, graduates of our curriculum are well-prepared to perform both short- and long-form improv.

Because Improv involves saying the first thing that comes to mind, it can surface our biases, however unconscious. At Instant Improv, when problematic assumptions and stereotypes appear in our games or scenes, we take that as an opportunity to learn.

At the end of every class, we engage in a feedback round where our students examine any harmful stereotypes that appeared in our games or scenes and discuss how we can do better.

In this way, we hope to become not only better improvisers, but better people.

Students from under-represented groups or marginalized communities can apply for one of two free-of-charge spots per class.  Please apply HERE.

Level 2 Direction corresponds to directing: how do we take and pull focus, where should players be standing, how do we decide to cut to different places & times?

Our Level 3 courses include a Long-Form Intensive, and a Musical Games Intensive. These courses lead to being eligible to join the Instant Improv Performance Teams.
