Service Description
When doing improv, we're acting, making up a story and directing, collaboratively, all at the same time. This Level 2 class will provide a deep dive into the "story" part of improvising. How do we infuse our scenes with good stories, on the spot? We'll be working on surfacing the comedic narratives we all already know, at least subconsciously, and applying them on stage, in real-time. We'll learn how to identify which character's story it is, what kind of story we're telling, how to apply stakes, and how to reach satisfying endings. Together, we’ll create a conscious and supportive space where we’ll focus on telling coherent, recognizable comedic narratives collaboratively, in real-time, without a script. Over 8 classes, we’ll explore Narrative through a combination of short-form game work and longer scene work. The concepts of presence, agreement, trust, commitment and support are reinforced through large and small group exercises. In the end-of-class show, you’ll get to show off all you’ve learned to an invited audience of family and friends. This course is a prerequisite for Level 3 classes. We can't wait to laugh and learn with you! In this class you’ll learn how to use Openings for idea generation, Miles Stroth's Position Play to quickly identify what kind of scene you're in, and how to weave themes and patterns through different scenes. Together, we’ll create a conscious and supportive space where we’ll focus on the “montage” format of long-form improv. Over 8 classes, we’ll combine everything you’ve learned in previous classes exclusively through long scene work. In the end-of-class show, you’ll get to show off all you’ve learned to an invited audience of family and friends. This course is a prerequisite to audition for a House Performance Team. We can't wait to laugh and learn with you!
